MRes student in Accounting and Finance at LUMS
After graduating, Rebekah did ACA training at Moore & Smalley, but has recently returned to LUMS for an MRes in Accounting and Finance.
I chose LUMS because it is ranked one of the top business schools in the UK. Being a highly rated place to study Accounting and Finance made LUMS my first choice. What drew me to Lancaster was the collegiate system. Being part of a college is like being part of a smaller community within the University and helps students settle into university life more quickly.
I enjoyed my degree and specifically liked the freedom I was given over module choices. I was encouraged to expand my knowledge by not only choosing accounting and finance modules, but also modules from other departments in the Management School such as project management and business information systems.
Variations in coursework activities such as group work and presentations have helped develop my confidence and leadership skills whilst still furthering my understanding of a topic. I feel that my degree has given me a range of skills that will help me progress my future career.
During my three years at university, I worked towards achieving the Lancaster Award which includes completing a variety of activities and reflection on skills developed. This encouraged me to involve myself in activities such as becoming a maths buddy in a local primary school with LUSU Involve and becoming a fresher representative for my college. Achieving the Lancaster Award not only helped me improve my employability skills and interview techniques, but enhanced my enjoyment of university.
My experience at Lancaster has been enjoyable and highly rewarding. Over my three years here I have developed into a well-rounded, professional adult and feel ready to begin my career.
After completion of my degree, I was offered an ACA training contract at Moore and Smalley in Preston. The technical skills I have gained from my degree will be invaluable during my ACA training.
The LUMS Careers team have been a great help. I was able to borrow books to help me pass psychometric tests and also attended many events and presentations to help me secure a graduate job.
