As well as being a leading Management School in the country, LUMS was one of few to offer joint majors programme. Another attraction was the huge diversity of modules available to all, no matter your major.
What I liked most was that the BSc Finance and Economics programme provided a solid theoretical foundation through Economics, which was complimented by the more applied and practical Finance courses. Combined with the learning experience, which was varied through both individual and group focused projects, the degree programme and LUMS have enabled me to stand out when speaking to prospective employers.
The collegiate system, alongside my course and societies, meant I was able to meet many different people from all over the world during my time at Lancaster University. Through all of these and especially the football, I have been able to make lifelong friends.
I was lucky enough to undertake a placement year at JP Morgan where I worked as a trade support analyst supporting the credit, rates and equities trading desks. Though not an official part of my degree, LUMS encouraged and allowed me to undertake a placement year, given my keenness and the vast benefits of work experience. Returning for my final year, I was able to apply a lot of what I’d learnt into practical modules such as Bond Markets and Investments.
Coming to Lancaster was the best decision I made and has provided me with some incredible memories. I came as quite shy and left so much more confident, a huge help of that has been Lancaster University and its people.
The huge number of careers fairs meant I was able to get a better idea about what employment opportunities were on offer, compared to the internet. It also strengthened my job applications, especially when I could say I’d met people from the company and had spoken to them.
I have been offered a graduate summer internship with EDF Trading where I am working as an Analyst. I have already been able to apply knowledge from my Bond Markets and Investments modules, where I am calculating the IR risk on trading books.
