Project Manager, Maxim Integrated

I am currently working as a Project Lead – Software for Maxim Integrated Products, based in Bristol in the UK. I was promoted to this role after successfully completing the Lancaster EMBA degree in 2010.

My first degree was a BSc in Computer Science and later I completed a Masters in Computer Science as well. After acquiring more than 10 years of experience in the design and development of software, working across multiple industries including aerospace, engineering, defence and manufacturing in India, I arrived in the UK to pursue a business management qualification (MBA) from one of the top 50 management schools, and also to gain some international exposure.

My objective in doing an MBA was to gain the right skills, knowledge and toolsets to manage a modern business. I chose Lancaster because of its top international ranking by the Financial Times, the choice of appropriate course modules, modular classroom teaching, tutor guidance on the assignments and affordable fees.

After spending two years with the University, I can now profoundly say that my experience was amazing as I have learnt new concepts and tools that I was not aware of before.

The best part of the EMBA was the ability to put theory into practice as part of my assignments. The Consultancy Challenge gave me an insight into the world of consultancy by enabling me to undertake a marketing strategy project for a bollard manufacturing company based at Haydock. Other projects and the dissertation provided me with ideal opportunities to understand the strategies behind the success of a company's products, and how to reduce the risk of failure.

Overall, the Lancaster EMBA has provided me with the right sort of skills, knowledge and tools to deal with real business issues such as making business plans, assessing the value of a company, managing people effectively, and doing market analysis. The innovative ideas and business insights generated by such a diverse and talented group on the EMBA gave me great confidence and added tremendous value to my professional life which I will always appreciate very much.

In conclusion, I would like to share a quote from one of my tutors which I will cherish forever: “The MBA is about being critical and challenging”.
