National Business Women’s Week - 16th – 20th October 2017

Research shows that empowering women in the workplace is not only the right thing to do, it is also smart for business. In celebration of this, the LUMS Careers Team are planning a range of inspiring and informative talks throughout National Business Women’s week.
We invite business women to join us, to talk about your chosen career path, and to share with Lancaster students your personal journey and experiences. As well as sector specific insight talks, there will be the opportunity to deliver skills development workshops to help female students define their unique strengths; and make sure these are demonstrated throughout the recruitment process.
If you would like to get involved and are interested in delivering a presentation or skills development workshop, please get in touch to let us know your availability and area of specialisation.
We have students from a variety of degree subject areas. These include Accounting & Finance, Marketing, Business Studies, Management, Economics, Management Science, Information Technology, HR and Entrepreneurship. There will be opportunities for all students to engage, not just females.

Speed Networking Evening

The Speed Networking Evening provides a fun and safe environment for students to develop and strengthen their employer networking techniques.
This annual event, well received by both students and employers, challenges the students to identify our anonymous employer guests, through a number of fast-paced networking rounds, using pre-research and business-specific focused questions.
You will be visited by small groups of students who will have approximately five minutes to ask questions of an employer representative in the hope of identifying which company they represent.
When each group of students has visited each employer they hand in answer sheets, and the group which has identified the most companies wins a prize.
Afterwards, students and employers have the opportunity to network in a relaxed and casual environment, with the assistance of nibbles and refreshments.

Date: 31st October 2017
Time: 18:00 – 20:00

Employer Presentation & Networking Events

Throughout the academic year, but largely from October to December, LUMS Careers hosts a large number of employer presentations, workshops and networking events. The purpose of these is to enable students to learn about employers they might wish to apply to, to meet recruitment teams and current employees (many of whom will be LUMS alumni) and to acquire detailed information about individual employers’ application processes, and how to navigate them successfully. Employers who have recently visited LUMS Careers to present to students include Accenture, EY, BAE Systems, PwC, Vauxhall, Deloitte, Atos, Mondelez, J&J, Unilever, Aldi, The Hut Group, Deutsche Bank and Teach First.

Employability Skills & Personal Development Workshops

Every year the LUMS Careers Advisers and Careers Coaches present a series of workshops to students, to assist in the development of the employability skills necessary to secure a job in the increasingly competitive graduate market. The range of workshops available is constantly evolving, but last year included Financial Markets Mock Assessment Centres; Investment Banking Spring Weeks for First Years; Finding a Summer Internship; How to Succeed at Interviews; CVs, Application Forms and Cover Letters; Type Dynamics Indicator Workshop; Introduction to Psychometric Tests; Developing your Professional Online Brand with LinkedIn; Planning for Postgraduate Study; Working in the UK; Visa Rules: Making UK Job Applications; and Finding a Job in Finance Off-cycle.
We are always happy to schedule in employer-led skills development workshops throughout the year that support your recruitment needs and timelines.
