PhD entry requirements

For entry to the PhD programme in Economics, you will normally need to have a good postgraduate qualification in Economics or a closely related discipline.

For the Integrated PhD programme, which includes 1 year of Masters studies and 3 years of Doctoral studies, you will normally need to have a good undergraduate qualification in Economics or a closely related discipline.

If your native language is not English, you will need to demonstrate your English language competence, normally via a recognised English language test such as IELTS. The minimum overall score required for IELTS is 7.0 points, including at least 6.0 in each of the individual elements.

In some cases, we may require overseas applicants to take the Princeton Graduate Record Examination in Economics (GRE) or GMAT.

Application process

Applications should be made online via the University's online application system. Details on how to apply, see the how to apply section in the School's main PhD pages.

Early application is advised as places are limited and may be fully subscribed by May. If you are applying for scholarships or studentships, you will also need to note any deadlines relating to these.
