PhD entry requirements
For entry to the MPhil/PhD programme in Economics, you will normally need to have a good postgraduate qualification in Economics or a closely related discipline.
If your native language is not English, you will need to demonstrate your English language competence, normally via a recognised English language test such as IELTS or TOEFL.
The minimum scores required are:
- IELTS: overall score of 6.5 points (including at least 6 in each of the individual elements)
In some cases, we may require overseas applicants to take the Princeton Graduate Record Examination in Economics (GRE) or GMAT.
Early application is advised as places are limited and may be fully subscribed by May. If you are applying for scholarships or studentships, you will also need to note any deadlines relating to these.
For further details on how to apply, including downloadable copies of the University application and reference forms, see the how to apply section in the School's main PhD pages.
You will need to supply references from two referees. At least one referee should have had an academic relationship with you in the institution you last attended.
All applicants are treated individually and the flexibility of the doctoral programme permits close compatibility with the academic background of each applicant.
Applications should be made online via the University's online application system.
