In 2010, Dr Thomas Birtchnell was awarded the RCUKI early career researchers’ travel funding. The aim of the funding was to create opportunities for UK-based early career researchers to visit India.
This forms part of a broader UK-India networking activity to enhance their UK-India collaboration knowledge. The RCUKI funding assisted Thomas with his current research on 'Transportation as a Lifeline of Development'. Thomas presented his research at the Eighth International Conference on the History of Transport, Traffic and Mobility (T2M). The conference was held at India's National Rail Museum, in New Delhi, India (December 2010).
