The Lancaster Leadership Centre

Our approach to leadership development is distinctive and highly practical: a focus on ‘doing good’ and ‘growing well’ for individuals and organisations alike.

Growing well in terms of leading operational activity, innovation and delivering sustainable financial performance; and doing good in terms of purpose and responsible relational leadership that engages stakeholders: employees, customers, suppliers, communities and shareholders.

Both doing good and growing well are necessary… one without the other is simply not sufficient.

All of our programmes and short courses seek to achieve this balance. We echo the sentiments of Kofi Annan through the Globally Responsible Leadership: A Call for Engagement initiative.

Working in partnership

The LLC has over 30 years of experience of working with organisations to develop their management and leadership potential. Many of our programmes have been pioneering and highly innovative in nature for example LUMS developed the first single company MBA programme for British Airways in 1988. Our programmes can be accredited or non-accredited and can be delivered at a variety of locations.

Nurturing close partnerships with organisations to create valuable, lasting relationships is central to our way of working. Current and recent clients include Airbus, AstraZeneca, BAE Systems, British Airways, BT, Co-operative Financial Services, Great Places Housing Group, Hospice UK, ITSA, the NHS, the National Housing Federation, Rexam PLC, Riverside Group, Royal & SunAlliance and UKAEA.

The LLC has the capability to work closely with clients in order to develop the most appropriate content and delivery mechanism for each learning and development intervention. This approach ensures that the intended benefits are delivered to the programme participants in the most cost-effective way.

Our programmes are characterised by action learning and interactive/experiential events. Face-to-face delivery is the most effective delivery method for these types of programme, allowing us to work with live business issues within the organisational context. Our delivery style allows us to be entirely customer-focused whilst making learning fun. We encourage a hunger for continuous improvement and development in both personal and organisational terms.

Typically, a Lancaster programme would contain three different aspects that would be brought out by the learning design:

  • Leading ideas - in which the group discuss latest theories and ideas. This will challenge delegates thinking by introducing latest ideas from world class experts.
  • Skills development - in which the group focus on their leadership, team and strategic skills. This element will enhance individual’s knowledge of themselves and others.
  • Sharing ideas - in which participants update each other on the progress of their projects and share learning and ideas on implementation

More details on our recent corporate clients and how our philosophy of partnership translates into programme design can be found in our case studies of some of our customised programmes.
