Marketing Consultant, Wolsey Hall Oxford

I’ve always wanted to pursue a career in marketing and PR. After completing an undergraduate degree in Advertising and Marketing, I started researching further studies to sharpen my skills. With UK top business school rankings in mind, I found myself looking at the MSc Advanced Marketing programme at LUMS. LUMS is one of the UK’s most prestigious business schools, with high-profile alumni working in different business sectors around the world.

The Marketing Department at Lancaster is the longest established in the country. As a unique and innovative programme, the MSc Advanced Marketing is specifically designed for students who have been previously educated in marketing or professionals who have worked in a marketing environment.

It offers a variety of different modules, which pushes you to address all aspects of marketing issues and allows you to explore specific sectors you are interested in. The course focuses on cutting-edge marketing approaches and business innovation, as well as implementation of transferable skills in practice. This was exactly what I was looking for in order to stand out in the job market.

Located in the beautiful historic town, only 15 minutes to Morecambe Bay and half an hour to Lake District, Lancaster University has a reputation for being the safest campus while allows you to enjoy all elements of student life.

Most of the AMM coursework is group work which requires efficient communications within in a team. Working in groups taught me how to be professional and assertive. Furthermore, with colleagues from various countries and backgrounds, I was exposed to a variety of cultural contexts. Developing friendships, making decisions, confronting conflicts and solving problems in groups are certainly crucial learning experiences.

After graduating from LUMS, I joined an international real estate company based in London. Single-handedly I pioneered the China desk to establish a management framework for Asia-based clients. I also travelled internationally to carry out seminars for business partners and clients.

I am currently working as a Marketing Consultant for Wolsey Hall Oxford. My responsibilities involve strategic planning and marketing to raise Wolsey Hall’s brand awareness, offering marketing insight and practical solutions, improving product and service, and building relationships with organisations. In addition, I design and manage social media activities, including copywriting and blogger engagement.

I found the LUMS Careers workshops very helpful. I have gained a good insight of the UK graduate recruitment process, ranging from online applications to assessment centres. The tips and techniques I’ve learnt on how to tackle each process were excellent preparation for me to stand out in my own job-hunting. I really appreciated the Career Office’s effort and commitment to supporting students.
