Maysara Sayed wins Kingsman Prize

Maysara Sayed

14 December 2017

The Kingsman Prize has been awarded to Management Science PhD graduate Maysara Sayed.

Dr Maysara Sayed’s PhD was awarded in April 2017.  His PhD thesis is entitled:  “Implementation of Sustainability in the Food and Catering Supply Chains of UK HE Institutions”.  It is in the paper rather than the monograph format and contains three papers, drawing on empirical case study data gathered from 5 UK Universities and members of their supply chains.  The first paper explores the impact of outsourcing versus in-house implementation modes on sustainable procurement practices, and draws on Transaction Cost Economics to illustrate both the advantages and challenges associated with each implementation mode.  The second paper takes a fresh look at local sourcing, and uses Legitimacy Theory to question the extent to which this is an appropriate sustainable supply chain management strategy.  The third paper draws on Institutional Theory to explore the pressures, logics and complexity experienced in the supply chain as different supply chain actors seek to implement sustainability related practices.

In terms of publications, Maysara has published 5 conference papers from his thesis – two in the proceedings of the main annual EurOMA conference; and three in the proceedings of the International EurOMA Sustainable Operations and Supply Chains Forum.  In addition, one of the papers from his thesis has been accepted for publication in: ‘Supply Chain Management: An International Journal’.

His supervisor, Professor Linda Hendry, describes Maysara as one of the brightest students she has supervised and warmly recommended him for this award.

The Kingsman Prize was established in memory of the long-standing scholar of Management Science, Professor Brian Kingsman.
