Top Chief Information Officer Andy Nelson to deliver LUMS masterclass

Former UK CIO and Chair of Government IT Andy Nelson will return soon to lead a Masterclass workshop for ITMOC students on commercial management.

The talk, on July 11th, will be his fourth masterclass during this academic year for students on the MSc/MRes Information Technology, Management and Organisational Change (ITMOC) programme.

Andy is a highly experienced executive in business technology and transformation, with over 30 years’ experience in retail, financial services, central government and consultancy. He has also worked as an independent consultant providing advice to major consulting firms and their clients on managing major business and IT transformation programmes. He currently advises EY and Kemp Little on their strategic direction in relation to the digital economy.

His third masterclass entitled “Taking stakeholders with you”, looked at the importance of good stakeholder management in managing business change and discuss strategies, processes and practices on how to write for, present and communicate to senior stakeholders Other masterclasses this year have included digital business transformation, and the role of the CIO in the twenty-first century business.

Masterclasses, workshops and specialist practitioner sessions are a key and unique feature of the ITMOC programme. This year, students have had masterclasses and workshops from CEOs, CTOS, CIOs, technology and management consultants, managers and tech leaders, alumni, from companies such as Accenture, Deloitte, IBM, IPL, HP, PWC, to name a few.

ITMOC Academic Programme Director Dr Martin Brigham says: “Over the last 5 years we have developed a unique series of guest practitioner masterclasses and workshops to complement the academic modules. Each academic year we have more than 25 of these practitioner sessions. This enables students to contextualise and apply what they have learnt from faculty who are providing the latest research evidence and concepts. Integrating academic insight and practitioner experience like this gives students a completely different platform to others, giving them insight, maturity and strategic acumen that companies are looking for.”
