Research Interests

My research interests are wide but largely focus around issues of changes in managerial control in contemporary organisations. In particular the study of the development of techniques of ‘self’ management and the management of the ‘self’ that dominate so much of modern social life. I am interested in the study of less visible aspects of managerial control and governance, particularly those that focus upon cultural, technological and aesthetic aspects of managerialism and work. A further area of interest concerns pedagogical issues surround management education. Much of this research is carried out in collaboration with Bogdan Costea.A related set of interests are concerned with the organisational impacts of technological development particularly the way society thinks and delivers health and social care, e.g. Telecare, Telemedicine and Integrated Care Pathways etc. A recent grant of £33,000 was won from BT and Liverpool Direct Limited to carry out an evaluation of a Telecare Pilot Project in Liverpool.
