Research Interests

My research interests focus on Bottom of the Pyramid (BoP) and global market contexts and in particular, on the sites where markets overlap, involving multiple and often conflicting efforts to organise and shape them. I am part of the Market Studies research group at Lancaster, an affiliate of the wider like-named international group (see http://marketstudi.es/). Currently, I am researching on mobile telephony-enabled enterprise markets in Africa. I am interested in understanding how the mobile financial services platform (Mobile Money) shapes Micro and Small Enterprise (MSE) markets. My research explores the collective efforts by micro-entrepreneurs, mobile phone technology, network providers and banks to shape MSE markets. For my PhD, I researched on product trajectories and overlapping markets, examining the shifting exchange relations between suppliers and buyers; and exploring how product trajectories and markets co-evolve. This study centred on the practices of market actors in the coffee global value chain. My work is primarily influenced by the Market Practices theory, and I mainly use qualitative and ethnographic research methods. In all my research endeavours, I seek to achieve impact at academic, economic and social levels.
