We invite our Lancaster MBA Alumni to join our current MBA students, faculty and corporate partners for an evening of entertainment, history and networking on board HMS Belfast on Thursday, 8th June. To include drinks on the Quarterdeck, dinner in the Ships company dining hall and after dinner guest speaker, Rear Admiral Chris Parry MBE.
Chris Parry has an international reputation for penetrating analysis and stimulating articulation of a wide range of geopolitical, strategic and security themes. He is one of the UK's top strategic thinkers and forecasters, whose assessments about the future have consistently proved to be accurate and are considered amongst the best in the field by governments, the City, the academic world and a variety of national and international institutions.
Chris spent 36 years in the Royal Navy. Drawing extensively from his life at sea, in senior government ministries and in sport, Chris speaks with insight and humour about senior leadership and the ability of teams at all levels to compete with the best, with gritty descriptions and personal recollections about operating under pressure, in complex environments and in the most demanding circumstances.
17:00-18:00: (Optional) Full access to the HMS Belfast for a self-guided tour of all nine decks. NB: You will need to depart the ship at 18:00 with all other members of the public and re-join us at 18:30 on the Quarterdeck for the drinks reception.
18:15–19:15: Once the boat has been closed to the public we have been given the opportunity to explore the two main decks of HMS Belfast. Yeoman expert guides will be on hand to answer any questions you may have or to further embellish stories from the ship.
HMS Belfast is a warship that has played a key role in the Arctic Convoys, the Battle of North Cape and D-Day. Construction of Belfast began in Belfast in December 1936. After deployments mainly around European, Russian and Pacific waters she entered reserve in 1963. In 1971, the government decided against preservation despite a report stating that it would be practical and economic to achieve. The refusal prompted the formation of the private HMS Belfast Trust to campaign for her preservation, which they secured following speeches in support by, amongst others, two Members of Parliament who had been members of her crew.
18:30: Drinks reception on the Quarterdeck
19:30: Three course dinner in the Ships company dining hall followed by guest speaker Rear Admiral Chris Parry CBE
