Strategic Analyst, Barclaycard

I chose to study at LUMS due to its great reputation and good environment on campus.  A nice quiet city for my studies.

The lecturers at Lancaster on the MSc Management Science and Marketing Analytics were all very friendly. They taught me how to think and gave me vital knowledge which has been very useful during my current work, especially the data mining, marketing analytics, spreadsheet modelling and SAS programming.

I impressed my manager with what we did at university, and realised I have developed a lot by coming to Lancaster for one year. The coursework was organised well, with deadlines always being evenly spread, unlike what my peers at other universities experienced.  I found the dissertation also amazing – it helped me find a job in London and gave me a great start in my career.

Whilst I was at LUMS, I was part of the Marketing Society, and attended a lot of careers events. But the most exciting part in my Lancaster life was founding my own bakery. The students union has a group of organised people who help young entrepreneurs, and I managed to achieve what I was dreaming to do, and it became a real highlight on my CV.

The LUMS Careers Team also prepared me for mock interviews and assessment centres which I found very helpful. The free CV checking was also very useful.

During the summer, I worked at Barclaycard and was able to get very good feedback from the company. I was luckily enough to secure a job with them after graduating.

Being at Lancaster was a very focused period of my life – it was devoted purely to studying and developing myself. Everyone should have such an opportunity to try and achieve what they have always wanted.

I am now working at Barclaycard in London as a strategic analyst. The knowledge I learned at Lancaster helped me get the job and got me started quickly. I am certain that people who study hard at Lancaster can all attain the jobs they want.
