Scholarships and funding
Postgraduate Loan Scheme
The UK Government provides a postgraduate loan scheme for students undertaking Masters courses.
Non means-tested loans of up to £10,000 are made available to students applying to taught and research Masters courses*.
For more information, go to the main Lancaster University page.
We know that undertaking Masters study can be a significant financial commitment and we are therefore making available significant scholarship funds for applicants who have been offered a place on the programme and who meet our scholarship criteria. These generous scholarships are provided for self-funded and part-funded applicants. The scholarship amounts vary and can in exceptional cases be up to the full amount.
How do I apply?
You will automatically be considered for these scholarships when we review your application and while funds are available. Because we allocate scholarships on a rolling basis, it is therefore wise to make your application for the programme as early in the year as you can.
There is no need to complete any additional paperwork. However, you may be invited to participate in a short telephone interview as part of the selection process or asked to supply further supporting information. If we shortlist you for a scholarship, we will let you know what we need from you and the process involved.
If you are awarded a scholarship, you may be asked to act as a student ambassador or representative for the programme.
Types of programme scholarships
For 2017 entry, we are offering the following types of scholarship:
- Academic Excellence Scholarships
These scholarships are available on a competitive basis to applicants with an outstanding academic profile – for example, an undergraduate degree equivalent to a UK first class honours degree.
- UK/European Scholarships
Generous scholarships are available on a competitive basis to applicants with a strong academic and/or personal profile who are nationals of the UK or EU countries.
- International Scholarships
These scholarships are available on a competitive basis to applicants with a strong academic and/or personal profile who are nationals of non-EU countries.
- CFA Scholarships
Students who are already enrolled on our Finance MSc and Accounting and Financial Management MSc programmes can apply while at Lancaster for a small number of scholarships that cover the cost of registration for the CFA Level I examination in June. These scholarships are designed to help students gain this qualification. Details on how to apply for the CFA scholarships will automatically be sent to students during the Summer Term.
Other Lancaster scholarships
The University provides several generous scholarship schemes to help students with the costs of postgraduate study.
For further information about these scholarship schemes and about other potential sources of funding for postgraduate study, see the main LUMS Scholarships and funding page.
* All of the Management School Masters programmes qualify for the Postgraduate Loan Scheme, except the Management (2 Year European Triple Degree) and the International Masters Programme for Managers.
