Duration and timing: 24 hours, Michaelmas Term
This module aims to provide you with a broad theoretical and practical understanding of some key concepts and issues in organisational behaviour, and in particular their implications for managing the human resources of organisations at a time of disjunctive change and the globalisation of markets.
By drawing on academic literature, a series of case studies and students' own experience, the module will seek to do the following:
- give you an understanding of the main approaches to organisational behaviour and human resouce management in three main areas – the motivation to, and meaning of, work, organisational culture, and organisational structure
- develop your ability to conduct an organisational analysis, drawing on techniques and concepts from the three areas as a basis for understanding organisations
- build your capacity to reflect on and develop insights into the organisational behaviour students have experienced in the past at individual, group and organisational-wide levels
- help you to develop a reflective and critical approach to the three areas
The module will, where possible, also highlight processes, concepts and issues that connect to other MBA core modules.
Group-based case study presentation and an individual assignment.
