Life at LUMS
You can focus on your studies without the distraction and hassle associated with the big cities, yet still enjoy a very active social life. Our campus is set in 360 acres of beautifully landscaped parkland with views extending to the hills of the Lake District to the north and Morecambe Bay to the west.
We are well-connected by road, rail, air and sea. Manchester and Liverpool are less than an hour away by car, and London is only two-and-a-half hours away by train.
Facilities for learning
As you would expect from a modern institution, our technology is cutting-edge. With over 1,000 computers, Wi-Fi access, high-speed broadband connections, high-quality printers and scanners, and state-of-the-art learning zone and e-learning environments, you will have instant access to business and financial information and news as it happens. Add to this the facilities of our University Library – which contains nearly a million items, subscribes to more than 26,000 print and electronic journals, and provides access to a wide range of online databases – and you will have a world of information at your fingertips.
What you don’t get are the high living costs, noise, pollution, crime, traffic congestion and endless commuting that can make studying in a big city so frustrating. If you are living on campus, everything is close at hand – and the city of Lancaster is also only a short bus ride away. In fact, you will be surprised just how easy, quick and cheap it is to get to where you want.
Room to unwind
When you need a break from studying, you can take advantage of the leisure facilities on campus or in the locality. A £20 million state-of-the-art sports centre, cinema, theatres and cafés are just some of the amenities on campus. Our proximity to two stunning National Parks – the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales – puts world-class climbing, kayaking, trekking and other activities on your doorstep.
As a LUMS student, you have access to the new Charles Carter building and the striking Lancaster Leadership Centre. These are not just award-winning buildings, they are buildings designed to enhance the learning and business needs of our community, where students, staff and executive visitors can meet and mingle.
There are substantial social and break-out areas for all students, staff and guests, designated teaching rooms for postgraduate students, and a focus area for outreach activities of many kinds. You’ll aways find something going on in our Hub. These buildings are part of a £420m transformation of Lancaster’s campus that few UK universities can match.
Most importantly, you will become a central part of the LUMS community. By mixing with the faculty, staff and your fellow students, you will develop crucial collaborative skills for today and a strong, long-lasting network of future business contacts for tomorrow.
