In recent years it has become increasingly evident that in theory and practice, traditional heroic and transformational models of leadership have not lived up to their promise. As we move into the second decade of the twenty first century, it is now time to re-think leadership and its dynamic and complex conditions, meanings, processes and consequences.
Whilst introducing students to the key mainstream perspectives, the module also seeks to reframe leadership by developing more questioning perspectives and by examining important but often neglected issues (such as followership, performance, power, culture, learning, identity and diversity).
The aim of this module is to demonstrate the value of rethinking leadership through critical ways of thinking that enable students to understand much more deeply the facilitators, barriers and challenges that frequently characterise contemporary leadership dynamics.
