Lancaster Moodle VLE Launch – August 2012
What is Moodle?
Moodle is a Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) widely used in schools, FE and HE. You can use Moodle to distribute course materials to your students in much the same way as you used LUVLE. Moodle also offers many additional features and so is an effective tool to support your distance and online courses. For example, you can use activity modules (such as forums, databases and wikis) to build richly collaborative communities of learning around your subject matter, as well as delivering content to students and assessing learning using integrated assignments and quizzes.
Can I use LUVLE in 2012-13?
No - if you wish to use a VLE for teaching from October 2012 you must use Moodle.
How can I get my course materials transferred from LUVLE?
A team of student eLearning assistants has been recruited to set up Moodle websites and transfer your course materials. They will contact you when your Moodle is ready and ask you to check that you are happy with the transfer of materials from LUVLE.
Please check your Moodle as soon as it has been set up to ensure the transfer meets your needs.
How can I get help using Moodle?
Regular workshops for Moodle will be running during the summer vacation.
You can request a consultation to help you reorganise your contents, attend a demo or a lab session throughout the summer. If you contact us for a consultation or sign up for a lab, we will prioritise the transfer of your course materials.
For further information visit the Demos, labs and consultations page.
When should I start using Moodle?
It is really important that you start to learn how Moodle works as soon as possible. When you are informed that your Moodle has been set up and materials transferred, please login at the earliest opportunity and take a look.
Please don't leave it until the last minute. If everyone waits until the last week in September our response time will be slower.
