Feeding 10 Billion People on a Finite Planet

Demand for food will rise rapidly over the next 40 years, and at the same time competition for land, water and other inputs will increase while the effects of climate change will become ever more felt. Achieving environmentally sustainable food security will be one of the major challenges of the current century. Raising crop production and productivity is a critical part of the response to this challenge, but will not be sufficient by itself. In this talk I will try to explore how research in plant biology on feeding the world fits with the broader research and policy agendas around food security.
