The Afrocentric Music List is an unmoderated forum for discussing the impact of musical styles from Africa and the African Diaspora on those of classical Western music. Its purpose is to help expose the beauty, strength, and vitality of this music and to encourage its much-deserved inclusion into the standard music repetoire.

Here, one can comment on or raise questions about the composers, performers and others in the classical music field who have been influenced by African folk music, Negro spirituals, ragtime and jazz, etc.

AFROMUS-L is intended for the music scholar, teacher, publisher, performer, composer, librarian or enthusiast. Announcements of upcoming concerts and conferences, newly published bibliographic sources or course materials, and newly opened internet resources relevant to this list are also welcome.
