Commercial Awareness- this course has taught me what is expected in the commercial world in regards to quality of work and professionalism, as well as the practical skills of holding presentations, creating proposals and producing research reports.

Analytical Abilities- Throughout my degree I have been trained to think analytically about everything, specifically when planning and carrying out research for my dissertation. This scientific way of thinking is a huge asset when it comes to research, problem resolution and planning.

In 2013, I was the only student to be awarded Pendle College Principal's Award, for contribution to the community

I was also one of a select few to be awarded the Lancaster Award in April 2013, for efforts to improve employability skills and voluntary work in the local area

Skills Acquired:
Communication- Alongside presentations for my academic work, my extracurricular activities have involved meeting, interacting and working with people from various backgrounds and settings. This has ensured that I have developed skills allowing me to tailor my style of communication to the audience or situation I'm in.

Assistant Dean

at Lancaster University

  • Assist the Dean in the upholding of residency, College and University rules
  • Responsible for performing flat inspections on a weekly basis, investigating instances of rule breaches and holding disciplinary hearings when required
  • Part of the assistant dean team accredited with the lowest number of repeat offenders in the college
  • Lettings Assistant

    at Student Housing Lancaster

  • Trusted to open and close the office, handle large sums of money and sign out keys.
  • Responsible for taking and arranging house viewings.
  • Assist with office admin, answering calls from landlords and resolving tenants problems.
  • Part of a team devising methods for promoting the company to students.
  • Commissioned to produce an Accommodation Guide

    for Pendle College

  • Investigated student experiences with off-campus accommodation and housing companies
  • Analysed data and placed results within the guide.
  • Researched housing companies in the area and published advice regarding securing off-campus accommodation in a booklet presented to all first year Pendle students
  • This guide has become the model for all future accommodation guides at Lancaster University
  • Volunteer with the Involve School Creative Art Project

  • Experience communicating ideas and projects with children aged 4-11
  • Contributed to the project by suggesting new ideas to involve the children more, creating educational projects and activities to run with children
  • Acting Returning officer in the Election Sub Committee

  • Solely organised and promoted Pendle college elections leading to the highest voter turnout yet achieved by Pendle, and the highest voter turnout among colleges that year
  • Solved the issues regarding low candidate nominations by devising a six week poster campaign for election awareness and college involvement
  • Responsible for communicating with all candidates and ensuring they adhere to all rules laid out in the elections bylaw
  • Part of a committee of 11 responsible for solving problems in the election structure, as well as discussing and voting on matters effecting the termly Student Union elections
  • Junior Common Room General Secretary

  • Elected into the position by my peers after a successful campaign
  • Managed a team of 16 responsible for organising the colleges social and welfare events by chairing all meeting and creating agendas that targeted the most imperative issues
  • Responsible for the welfare of 80 first year students as they begun University. This included organising social events, encouraging participation and caring for first year students placed in off campus housing, due to restricted spaces on campus. This year the off campus first year student population had the lowest dropout rate yet, attributed in part to their induction into University life by myself and the representatives I nominated
