Every 4-6 years, the UK government undertakes a major review of all universities in the UK. This review is the largest of its kind and measures three aspects of research within departments: the quality and impact of the research, and the environment for that research.
The results of the 2014 UK Research Excellence Framework have just been announced and research by staff in the Department of Politics, Philosophy and Religion at Lancaster University has been ranked number 1 in the UK for research impact, number 2 for research environment and number 3 for overall research in its field.
The Department combined its strength in its three areas to submit a single unified submission to the REF 2014 subject panel in Theology and Religious Studies. This strategy was founded on our belief that quality disciplinary and interdisciplinary research is central to understanding our changing world and creating a better future.
This excellent result is also confirmation of the vitality of the Department and our commitment to engaging with real world questions and policy issues. This energy permeates not only our research but our undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and our engagement with the local, national and international community.
