Discussing the Human Dimension of Global Challenges
Africa/UK Forum: The Human and Social Dimensions of Innovation and Development - July 2017
This innovative event, organised by the University aimed to stimulate discussion and identify some of the major social challenges behind the global sustainable development goals.
Twenty representatives from organisations across Africa, including universities, businesses, NGOs and governments, joined thirty key Lancaster University academics for the three-day intensive event.
Fully facilitated discussions identified common areas of interest and a wider Collaboration Lab session during the 3 day event allowed a wider audience of Lancaster staff to contribute to the ongoing discussions.
This new network has created new collaborations for future research projects and also saw several new concrete projects ideas begin to emerge. Potential topics emerged around women in enterprise, gendering food systems, arts and culture for social transformation, Sustainable extraction of natural resources and public health data systems.
Going forward, these collaborations and new ideas will be developed further, and there are plans to have a follow up event in East Africa in early 2018.
