Knowledge Transfer Partnerships and Contract Research

The Strategic Partnerships team help to develop relationships between our research-led university and organisations which are based on shared strategic goals to meet current and future challenges. Such broad-based and in-depth relationships with Lancaster University include collaborative opportunities for:

  • Undertaking fundamental and applied research projects of joint interest to help companies gain competitive advantage, either through direct research contracts or by leveraging funding from research councils, government departments or charities
  • Ensuring a steady stream of graduate recruits with the relevant skills and knowledge – through joint curriculum planning and customising courses (undergraduate and postgraduate)
  • Developing people at every level in a company to promote diversity of talent and provide continuing management education and leadership training
  • Access to world-class expertise through consulting often for feasibility studies or fast-turnaround projects
  • IP exploitation which includes the commercialisation of research outcomes, exploiting a route to market for inventions and discoveries and licensing technology opportunities in addition to establishing spinout companies
  • Transferring knowledge into organisations through established schemes, such as Knowledge Transfer Partnerships and Industrial CASE awards
  • Creating new businesses which could occupy space in one of our dedicated knowledge transfer buildings and benefit from co-location with researchers
  • Networking with organisations from different sectors in consortia and through world-class centres of excellence and research institutes

We offer a single entry point of contact through RES and we work hand-in-hand with our university’s faculties and schools to coordinate relationships, which are usually cross-faculty.
