Catered accommodation

If you don't want to have to worry about meals during term time, you can always consider our catered package. Catered accommodation is available in four of the eight undergraduate colleges - Bowland and County at the north end of campus, and Cartmel and Lonsdale at the south end. To see what's on offer, you can see a sample menu here.

To apply for catered accommodation, simply select the catered option on the web application form. You will then be asked to choose a college and a room type. The following combinations are available to you in 2015/16:

Bowland College - Basic Standard rooms

Cartmel College - Superior Ensuite rooms

County College - Basic and Superior Ensuite rooms

Lonsdale College - Superior Ensuite rooms

Most rooms are let on a 40 week basis, with the catered element being available for 31 weeks - that's all three terms plus freshers' week. We don't include the vacations as many students go home for all or part of them so this offers you more flexibility. You can of course still use the catering outlets during these times on a pay-as-you-go basis.

County's Basic Ensuite rooms offer you the further flexibility of a 36 week let, though you would have to vacate during the Easter break to make way for conference use.

To compare rents and availability, have a look at our accommodation matrix.

There are two catered accommodation venues - one at each end of the campus. Bowland and County students eat in Refuel in County South, while Cartmel and Lonsdale students eat in Barker House Farm on Alexandra Park.

The scheme provides two meals a day, seven days a week during termtime and in freshers' week: Breakfast is served between 8.00am and 11.00am, with your evening meal between 5.00pm and 8.00pm. Many students choose to take a late breakfast and an early evening meal, to avoid the need for much lunch. More information can be found on the catered accommodation website.

You will pick up a payment card when you get here to use each time you eat.

We allocate all students on the catered accommodation scheme to rooms in the same area - this way you can be sure that you will be living with others that have chosen the same option and can eat together if you choose. You all still have your own kitchen, so you can still make your own snacks and socialise in the accommodation.

If you have friends or visitors that want to eat with you this is really simple - both venues are open to the public, so they would just pay for their food at the till.

Special Requirements

If you have special dietary requirements you can contact the team by email or telephone 01524 593260. They will try to accommodate you where possible.

If you are unable to attend a meal sitting, it is generally not possible to carry meals over. It may be possible to make alternative arrangements for the day though - you can speak to staff in the outlet about this if necessary.

Payment of the catered accommodation will be due on the same date as your rent. It will feature on your accommodation invoice.
