This is what some of the students had to say about their experience of the service, and some of their suggestions provided, during the academic year 2012/13:

‘Really enjoyed the experience, has increased my self esteem and helped my personal relationships.’

‘I have found the experience extremely positive, and I’ve enjoyed being given advice that is sustainable, as opposed to when I’ve had previous counselling which has given me temporary fixes.’

‘The service was extremely helpful in providing coping mechanisms that I will go on to develop throughout my life! Practical advice was exactly what I needed. An excellent service.’

‘The Mental Health Adviser went out of her way to provide me with the best possible care from herself and other services- above and beyond what was expected.’

‘Friendly, helpful and compassionate.’

‘The counselling sessions were really helpful and relaxed. They made me feel at ease.’

‘Overall very pleased with the service, received very valuable help. Perhaps shorter waiting time for a preliminary appointment if possible.’

‘Staff I encountered in the counselling service and the Base were all very friendly.’

‘Whenever I met with the counsellor I felt that someone cared about me. I would like to say thank you’

‘I couldn’t have asked for more really! In terms of what could be improved, the service should be expanded massively so that more students can access it has made a huge difference to me!’

‘Found the counselling service very accessible and the counsellors were quick to respond to my application. Only suggestion would...be a shorter waiting time for an appointment, but I imagine this is dictated by demand on services’
