Academic Support

In the School of Computing and Communications, we ensure that our students receive the support that they need in order to achieve their full academic potential. We are a friendly department, and foster a highly supportive learning environment.

Academic Advisors

Each student is assigned their own Advisor for the duration of their studies, meeting once per term. Your Advisor is available for on demand, one-to-one consultation, and to discuss personal development. This may include feedback on coursework and discussion of academic issues, but you may also discuss extra-curricular activities and any pastoral issues you may be having.

Open Door Policy

Our friendly and approachable academic staff offer an open door policy to any students who require support with their learning. In addition, staff in the Teaching Office are always available to help.

Student Representatives

We have a group of elected student representatives who collect feedback from our students and present it in termly meetings, where members of academic staff, including our Head of School, are present. This ensures that our students’ opinions are heard, and we use the feedback provided to improve the student experience.

Student Learning Advisor

In addition, the Faculty of Science and Technology’s Student Learning Advisor, Dr Robert Blake, offers free consultations to help you improve your scientific writing and help your coursework to achieve its full potential. Find out more.
