Halal Cosmetics Company

The Organisation

The Halal Cosmetics Company are a Lancaster based supplier of Halal skincare products. Their products are paraben- and sodium lauryl sulfate-free, and are proudly made in Britain.

The Challenge

Halal Cosmetics Company wanted to attract more customers to their product, whilst still maintaining their unique aesthetic. The Lancaster Product Development Unit (LPDU) was approached to assist with a review of their design and display methods.

Expertise Sought

  • Computer Aided Design (CAD) skills
  • Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) skills
  • Experience with Solidworks

The Solution

Concepts were considered for a variety of aspects, but ultimately a re-design of the display stand was deemed most beneficial. A contemporary, multi-levelled stand was modelled using Halal Cosmetics Company’ signature colours and incorporating their logo. This required the use of CAD software Solidworks, which allowed the part to be revised easily to obtain the most suitable design. A slightly modified prototype stand was produced utilising SLS technologies, to enable Halal Cosmetics to fully assess the design before getting full size prototypes and a production stand manufactured.

Various coating options were investigated, including painting, full colour printing and hydro-dipping, to enable Halal Cosmetics Company to choose the most appropriate method for subsequent prototypes and production items.

This work was part-financed by the European Regional Development Fund through the SusDRAM:EDA project, which provides SMEs in the northwest of England with mechanical engineering support.

The project provided Halal Cosmetics Company with a new display stand, designed to attract new customers to their product and increase awareness of halal cosmetics, while maintaining the company’s brand.
