Presentation 1: ~ IT Systems of the Future: The BT Perspective ~

Presenter: Robin Mannings - Research Foresight Manager: BT Adastral Park Research Centre


On the September 6th , Robin Mannings, BT's Research Foresight Manager and one of BT's most experienced and well-known experts in the field of Mobility and Disruptive Technologies will be speaking at InfoLab21 regarding his views on the future. In particular looking at those relevant to the IT and Communications businesses. His presentation will include the big issues and new trends facing business and society in the future and the part future ICT will play - in particular disruptive technologies.

Robin is one of BT's most experienced and well-known experts in future technologies especially in the areas of wireless, positioning, telematics, RFID, Sensor Networks and Ubiquitous Computing. Based at Adastral Park in Ipswich(the centre for BT's R&D activities), he works extensively with major corporate customers, suppliers, academia, the media and teams within BT on the commercialisation of research in these rapidly converging and disruptive technologies. He is a member of BT Group's Corporate Foresight and Futurology team.

His international reputation was principally established through his research on Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) and he is currently studying for a Professional Doctorate at Lancaster University's Computer Science Dept in the area of ubiquitous computing, personal telematics and autonomous location systems. He is also a Chartered Engineer and the author of many papers and patents and is featured regularly in the media.
