Brunch Bytes: Utilising Location Based Services
Dr Reuben Edwards, School of Computing and Communications, Lancaster University
Thursday 03 November 2011, 1000-1300
The seventh Lancaster briefing in our new series of "Brunch Bytes". #bbytes
A location-based services (LBS) is an information entertainment service, accessible with mobile devices through the mobile network and utilising the ability to make use of the geographical position of the mobile device. LBS can be used in a variety of contexts, such as health, work and personal life. This can involve identifying a location of a person or object and can also include mobile commerce when taking the form of coupons or advertising at customers based on their current location. Examples of interesting developments are 4 Squared, GroupOn, Place and Gowal.
This workshop will investigate how LBS can be applied to businesses, marketing and mobile technology and will explore how industry trends are developing with regards to LBS.
Why attend and what will you get out of it?
- Discuss this technological development with industry experts and like minded businesses
- Consider how these developments could impact the mobile industry
NB. To be eligible to attend this free event you should be from a northwest SME from the digital and creative sector.
Brunch Bytes is a series of briefings rather than stand alone events. It is designed to allow delegates to register for a programme of four briefings over the next two years (from a choice of 8-10). This is a free scheme which will run until the end of 2012, enabling delegates to choose topics which are appropriate to their business.
The briefings will be run on a quarterly basis with 2 series running in tandem at Lancaster University and Daresbury Science and Innovation Campus.
