Network Protection: Why you need a Security Policy... is the topic for November's Talking Technology event at InfoLab21. Our speaker will be Philippe Jan, Trainer/Manager for Advanced ICT Courses in ICT Focus at InfoLab21. Philippe is responsible for the design and delivery of systems courses on ICT Focus's range of certificates as well as Microsoft Official Curriculum classes. He has a strong interest in systems management and security and has provided the following outline for his talk:

During this presentation we will explain that to ensure that your network assets are suitably protected from threats; you need to stop thinking of 'security' as a succession of fixes to be applied and adopt a holistic approach. We will:

  • Examine the trade-offs that security measures invariably bring with them
  • Introduce the defense in depth mode
  • Talk about some of the things that people do that do not improve security
  • Give advice on creating a security policy
