Exploration concerning the supply, production, demand and market for straw panel buildings in the UK


12 Month Enterprise-led Part Funded Masters by Research: Ref No. CGE42

Each year, 3 million tonnes of waste straw is produced in the UK – straw that could be utilised to build cheap, easily assembled buildings.
In this 12 month Masters by research project you will examine the supply, production demand and potential market for buildings constructed from straw panels, and also help establish the potential to mechanise and automate their production in the UK.
Applicants should have a degree in business management, business analytics, entrepreneurship or marketing. You should also possess effective communication skills (to be able to engage with diverse businesses) and demonstrate experience and or skills in business analysis and engagement. An interest and knowledge/experience of product design and/or environmental sustainability would be desirable.

Enterprise and Collaborative Partners

This Masters project is a research collaboration between Lancaster University with supervision by Dr Lingxuan Liu and Bee Rowan of Strawbuild.  Strawbuild is a leading building and training social enterprise specialising in natural materials using enterprise and collaborative partners.  It is the UK lead partner in the acclaimed European pre-fabricated straw panel system Ecococon.
