Year in Industry with EDF

The Lancaster University and EDF Energy Placement programme is a collaboration between the University and Heysham 2 nuclear power station.

The aim of the programme is to provide students with a unique opportunity that builds on the relationship between our two organisations and in so doing, circumvents the need for individuals to enter national recruitment processes. The programme will appeal to students who have a desire to work in the energy sector on exciting and rewarding projects.

Role/Job Descriptions

We have three discipline areas:

What are the timings and key dates?

The industrial placements will begin no earlier than the end of September 2018 and last for up to twelve months. Deadline for submission of applications is midnight, 31st December 2017. First stage interviews will take place on 22nd, 23rd and 24th January 2018 at Lancaster University, with two members of staff from the Faculty of Science and Technology. A shortlist will be provided to Heysham 2 of those applicants that are being recommended for assessment by EDF Energy. Representatives from Heysham 2 will be in touch to arrange interviews with those people they would like to meet.

Who is eligible to apply?

Any student or former student of Lancaster University is eligible to apply. For current students, this can be taken as a year-out, through what is known as intercalation. Intercalation allows a temporary suspension of student status for a number of reasons. If your academic department offers a sandwich course, this may fulfil that element. For those who are about to or have already graduated, this could provide a step into working in the energy sector.

What will I be paid?

Salary is in the range of £15K.

This is a great opportunity to understand how to make a strong application as well as what EDF are looking for in their future workforce. It will take place on the lunchtime of Thursday 30th November at 12:00hrs in Lancaster Environment Centre (Training Rooms 1 & 2).
