North West Coast Academic Health Science Network
The North West Coast Academic Health Science Network (NWC AHSN) aims improve research and practice in the NHS by strengthening links between NHS services and local universities, business and industry.
What is the North West Coast AHSN?
AHSNs were established following the publication of the 'Innovation, Health and Wealth' report in December 2011.
A new type of organisational structure, the Networks are NHS led, bringing universities, business and industry together with Clinical Commissioning Groups, community, primary, secondary and tertiary NHS services to achieve the Network’s innovation priorities.
AHSNs focus on:
- Research participation
- translating research into practice
- education and training
- service improvement
- wealth creation
One of 15 AHSNs across the country, the North West Coast AHSN covers much of Cheshire and Lancashire, Merseyside and South Cumbria, reaching a population of 3.6 million people.
Lancaster University is one of nine higher education insitutions partnering with 22 NHS Trusts and 19 Clinical Commissioning Groups in the North West Coast AHSN.
