Applications of Topology in Physics (History and Contemporary Results)
I will discuss some applications of topology, mainly in condensed matter, from a historical perspective.
I consider the following problems:
1. Classification of phases in liquid crystals, superfluids and neutron stars.
2. Classification of defects, including linked defects .
3. Phase transitions in membranes.
