Research Assistant (x2) in the Embodied Cognition Lab

These Research Assistant roles will involve working on a project for Dr Dermot Lynott. The specific activities undertaken may depend on the skills and experience of the individual. However, the main goal for this project will be to recruit participants for experimental studies to be run in the Whewell Building on campus. Studies will be run in a new temperature-controlled lab, where we investigate the effects of hot/cold temperatures on people's behaviour and decision making (e.g., do they become more aggressive in hot temperatures?) Students may also gain some experience of preparing online studies, using survey software such as Qualtrics.

Research assistant in Lancaster Babylab (x2)

The placement will provide the Research Assistant volunteers with the opportunity to become actively engaged in research with young infants and toddlers. Involvement in different research studies will be possible, some of which will use eye tracking or behavioural coding techniques of infants’ and parents’ behaviours. Some studies will need two experimenters to be present, of which the volunteers could be one. For helping with eye tracking studies, the volunteers will be trained to conduct studies exploring how infants scan information presented to them on a computer screen. Other studies will investigate infants’ social behaviour by filming infants as they are experiencing a live scene. Being actively involved in ongoing research at the Lancaster Babylab will provide the volunteers with a unique opportunity to receive hands on research experience and to help out in the running of an active research programme.
