GIS modeller

We are looking for an Intern to join the Integrated Environment Planning team covering Lancashire and Cumbria. It is a dynamic team that is actively involved in the way the Environment Agency plans for future environmental improvements.
Environment Planning is about understanding the issues affecting the environment and supporting the business to decide upon actions needed to address them. By understanding the cost and priority of actions, we can plan the work we do to deliver the greatest environmental outcomes.
We are looking for a student with good mapping and modelling skills to support us in delivering a GIS project to develop our understanding of urban pressures on the water environment.
Urban area mapping will enable us to identify sources of diffuse pollution by locating explicit polluting activities e.g urban parkland, busy roads, industrial estates, sewer overflows etc. This will then allow us to understand how much it will cost to reduce the urban pollution, how we might deliver that reduction and how much it might cost. We need to see the town and its drainage as a ‘whole’ so that we know we are addressing the pollution cost-effectively and fairly.
