Conference success for Lancaster statistics students
Congratulations to Rebecca Killick (PhD student in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics) and Michelle Stanton (PhD student joint between the Department of Mathematics and Statistics and the Division of Medicine) who were awarded prizes at this year's Research Students' Conference in Probability and Statistics.
The annual conference provides a forum for postgraduate students to present their research to the wider statistics and probability community and this year around 140 students gathered to share their research.
Rebecca was awarded the prize for best poster for her description of recent work on changepoint methods. She also scooped third prize for her presentation on detecting changepoints within Gulf of Mexico hurricane data.
Michelle was awarded second prize for her presentation on spatio-temporal modelling of Meningitis incidence in sub-Saharan Africa. As a consequence of their success at the RSC, both have been invited to present their work at the Royal Statistical Society's annual conference in Brighton this September.
