Exploring flood risk assessment in the context of land redevelopment
The CCN Workshop on Flood Risk Assessment and Brownfield Regeneration held in conjunction with the North West Brownfield Regeneration Forum (NWBRF) brought together 55 delegates at LEC to consider the changing face of flood risk assessment in the context of land redevelopment.
Presentations focused on practical applications and covered impacts of legislation, contaminant mobilisation concerns and an update on the development of Guidelines for flood risk mapping. Other contributions were case-study centered and focused on urban regeneration in Rotherham, breach modelling along the North West coastline and sustainable development and flood risk in Cockermouth, Darlington and Stockton.

The Engineering Department has been working with a group of “Aspiring Engineers” at Ripley St Thomas Church of England Academy. Alongside listening to talks on a variety of topics from representatives from the Engineering Department and industry, the students were asked to think like engineers and devise a solution to a problem the world might face in 2050.
