Our current postgraduate students are a vital part of our vibrant research culture and take part in seminars and postgraduate symposia. There is a caring framework for postgraduate training and supervision in Lancaster Medical School that is aimed at a high on-time completion rate for studies.
While preserving traditional disciplinary strengths we bring together researchers from different disciplinary backgrounds. Modern approaches to health and medical research typically demand expertise from scientists with depth of knowledge in specific discipline. They also demand interaction with other specialties. This broadens the background understanding, ensures the work is well targetted and develops transferable teamwork skills.
Lancaster University has many areas of strength in research in health and medicine. Lancaster Medical School acts as a catalyst to promote interactions and to enhance links with the NHS Trusts and to develop translational research in the region. Staff in the Department carry out their research in close collaboration with other related departments and organisations.
The Department is undergoing rapid growth. Independently funded research groups, visiting academics looking to make good research progress on sabbatical, individual independent fellows and researchers looking to resettle to an optimistic and ambitious organisation where there is a growth agenda are invited to make informal contact.
Lancaster Medical School was established in 2006. We are actively developing new postgraduate courses and opportunities for continuing professional development.
