Story Published: October 2012
The Centre for Disability Research at Lancaster University (FHM & FASS) held its sixth international biennial conference on campus on 11th-13th September 2012. It was a great success, with over 220 participants from across the globe. We were particularly pleased to see so many delegates from the Nordic Network for Disability Research (NNDR); by agreement, the NNDR conferences run in alternate years. The conference was co-sponsored by the publishers Routledge: Taylor & Francis Group. Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Professor Chetwynd, opened the event by welcoming all to Lancaster.
The conference title was Disability, Poverty and Neo-Liberalism, and the keynote speakers were Dr Chris Grover (Lancaster), Dr Sonali Shah (Leeds) and Professor Rob Imrie (Kings College, London). Dr Tom Shakespeare (WHO) co-ordinated presentations from many countries on disability 'hate crime'.
Recordings of the keynote presentations will soon be available on the CeDR website.
There will be seventh international CeDR conference at Lancaster in September 2014.
