Lancaster University is well-known for its excellent academic reputation, but we also pride ourselves on being one of the friendliest and most supportive universities you could hope to find, as well as being in an attractive and healthy setting, with plenty going on for students.
A distinctive feature of Lancaster is our College System. Lancaster is different from most other universities, with every student here being a member of one of the nine Colleges on campus. This means that as well as being one of our 12,000 students here, you're also part of the small, friendly community of your chosen college.
Each college has its own individual character and they are busy centres of social, recreational and educational activity. To ensure your social and welfare needs are well-catered for they each have their own social facilities, bar, games rooms, Porters' Lodge and administrative staff. Many have IT suites and printing facilities.
The college structure makes it easy to get to know people and provides a supportive, friendly community atmosphere for new students.
All on-campus accommodation is located in the colleges, with a variety of rooms adapted for disabled students, as well as designated helper rooms adjacent to them, where required.
There is a Health Centre on campus, staffed 24 hours a day by medical professionals. The same medical team runs a city-centre practice, for off-campus students. There is also a Dental Surgery and a Pharmacy on campus.
All students are allocated a Personal Tutor and there are several different welfare networks as well as trained counsellors on campus.
