Formal teaching: emotive content

Teaching can sometimes include highly emotive material which may occasionally have the potential to cause distress to trainees if they have recently or are currently experiencing life events relating to the subject matter. In such circumstances trainees are encouraged to discuss any potential problems with programme staff, and in such circumstances it may be agreed that a trainee can miss all or part of a teaching session, and instead obtain the relevant learning elsewhere. Regular opportunities are available for trainees to reflect on and discuss their development and emotional reactions to their work and to teaching in the form of small group personal development and reflection sessions.
