New directions policy group

The New Directions Policy Group (NDPG) acts as a hub for the exploration of the future of clinical psychology as a profession and any changes which might be needed to training. Members explore the changing mental health policy landscape and identify good practice, discussing the implications for the profession and making recommendations for consideration at the Policy Group Forum.

The NDPG hosts events for all 3 cohorts of trainees on exciting new directions for clinical psychologists. In 2016 a number of external speakers shared their experiences of working with the natural environment to enhance wellbeing e.g. with refugees, young men at risk of offending and psychotherapy clients, during a day for all trainees. Experiential exercises in the afternoon allowed trainees and staff to explore the possibilities of using the natural environment to enhance clinical work. The day was well received. The possibility of offering a day explore another aspect of the future of the health and social care professions alongside medical and social work students is under consideration for 2018.
