The Division of Health Research (DHR) Doctoral Scholarships

2013 - 2014

The Division of Health Research is pleased to offer up to 10 Postgraduate Research Scholarships of £1000 per student to excellent applicants on its taught PhD programmes in Mental Health, Palliative Care, Organisational Health and Wellbeing and Public Health.

The opportunity to apply for a scholarship is only available to students who have registered to commence their studies in June 2014 on one of the above PhD schemes. Scholarship awards will be made for one year only (the first year) and will be allocated to successful students in the form of a fees reduction.

Scholarship applications have now closed for 2013-14.

Application process

The application process is as follows:

  1. You must first secure a place on the programme by fully completing an electronic application and ensuring all outstanding supporting documentation is uploaded to the electronic application by Tuesday 11 March 2014.
  2. In order to be considered for a scholarship you must contact the PG Admissions office at: and request a Division of Health Research Scholarship application form. This must be fully completed and returned to them before the scholarship deadline of 21 March 2014.
  3. Successful scholarship applications will be notified of the awarding committee's decision via e-mail by the end of April 2014.

Terms of the awards

The terms of the award are as follows:

  1. Award holders must have accepted an offer of study by 21 March 2014 on either the PhD in Mental Health, the PhD in Organisational Health and Wellbeing, the PhD in Palliative Care or the PhD in Public Health.
  2. Scholarships will not be made available to holders of other bursaries, studentships, or the equivalent thereof. The Division reserves the right to withhold the scholarship award in the event that the holder succeeds in securing alternative external funding.
  3. Where an applicant has not yet completed their undergraduate or Master's level qualification, any award made will be conditional upon a satisfactory degree result.
