SWK379 Social Work and Drug Use

Course convenor: Dr Ian Paylor

Course Aims

  • To develop awareness of the use of drugs in society and the students' own drug use.
  • To introduce a range of models of intervention
  • To introduce the concepts and principles of harm minimisation
  • To explore the range of services available to drug users and to critically evaluate the services' ability to respond to the needs of black people, women and other groups facing discrimination and disadvantage.
  • To develop and understanding of the law and policy in relation to drug using clients and social work practice.
