Biography

Amber is a lecturer in Glaciology & Environmental Data Science and part of the Lancaster Environment Centre (LEC) and Data Science Institute (DSI) at Lancaster University. She obtained her PhD from the Institute for Climate & Atmospheric Science (University of Leeds) in 2013, where she has also worked as a postdoctoral research fellow (w/ Prof Andy Shepherd) in the Centre for Polar Observation and Modelling. Amber has also previously worked as a teaching fellow in the University of Durham's Geography Department.

Her main research interest is in climate change and the cryosphere (the frozen regions of our planet). She is particularly motivated to study the response of the Greenland and Antarctic Ice Sheets to global warming because of the leverage they posses to affect global sea level should they shrink or grow. See research here.

Amber has previously been the treasurer for the UK Polar Network and is currently (i) early career representative to the UK National Committee for Antarctic Research (UKNCAR) and (ii) lead organiser of the International Glaciological Society British Branch meeting in 2017.
