Dr Nigel Peyton, who graduated from LUMS in 2009 with a PhD in Management Learning and Leadership, was elected Bishop of Brechin in the Scottish Episcopal Church in June 2012.
The Right Reverend Dr Nigel Peyton lives in the vibrant and challenging city of Dundee where he first began his ministry in the late 1970s.
He is an Honorary Teaching Fellow at Lancaster University and together with Dr Caroline Gatrell, Senior Lecturer within the Department of Management Learning & Leadership published Managing Clergy Lives: Obedience, Sacrifice, Intimacy (Bloomsbury T&T Clark) last December.
Nigel first arrived at LUMS in 2003 to undertake the MPhil in Critical Management. At that time he was Archdeacon of Newark in the Diocese of Southwell & Nottingham and as a senior church leader was interested in an inter-disciplinary forum for further study. Nigel says his LUMS experience has been “stimulating, friendly and enormously rewarding and propelled me towards my final career move. Part-time, mature students have a huge amount to give and gain at Lancaster.”
In 2005 Nigel was appointed a Non-Executive Director of the Ecclesiastical Insurance Group and chairs its ethical investment advisory panel. As well as leading the everyday life of the diocese Nigel enjoys his role as trustee of St Margaret’s Nursing Home and writing a regular column in the Dundee Courier, a widely read Scottish daily newspaper.
