Event Details

Michael Blastland has presented many programmes for BBC Radio including Analysis, The Inquiry, The Human Zoo, and Whodunnit, specialising in journalism about quantitative information and evidence.

He is the author, with Andrew Dilnot, of The Tiger that Isn’t, about interpreting numbers in the news; and The Norm Chronicles, about risk, written with David Spiegelhalter.

The workshop will include presentations on:
  • Storytelling using quantitative information
  • Common misinterpretations of quantitative evidence
  • Quantitative case studies based on current hot topics
  • Choices about framing and uncertainty of information

The day will also involve the opportunity for participation, and will encourage active discussion related to the presentation topics above.


A light lunch will be served from 12:30-2:00pm.
